Here are some things that you should keep in mind when getting a Hardwood Floor installed.

Think and Contemplate on the options before choosing the wooden floor- Laminated, Teak, Oak etc.

We offer many hardwood options and varieties in grain patterns, multiple surface furnishes, and wood finishes. Consider the different factors before choosing the wood floor you want.

You should keep in mind the geographical area where you need the floor and the subfloor. If you need to install the floor in the area which is often visited, like the kitchen or the living room you should opt for a more durable laminated hardwood that eliminates any chances of excessive wear and tear. It is important to select a floor that compliments and fits in the space.

Understand the Subfloor

The subfloor is situated below the finished flooring and determines the durability of the floor. You must ensure that it is clean, has uniformity, and is dry before you start installing the hardwood floor. It is imperative to utilize moisture meters to ascertain water content in the subfloor. In case the house has a concrete subfloor, find the level of moisture on the surface and towards the internal part of the slab. The moisture content in both parts is different, so it is better to concentrate on the foundation/subfloor to prevent damage.

Go through the installation guidelines.

Before you get the floor installed you need to go through the installation guidelines. At instances when you are getting it installed from a non-professional they often skip these guidelines which in turn affect both the durability and life of your floor.

For example- Nailing the wooden boards is not the best method to install the floor, it is important to use wood glue or adhesive.

The installer must check the moisture content in the subfloor. Remove all the wet spots that have appeared on the wood’s surface when the glue is wet.

Allow the adhesive to dry before you move your furniture and heavy appliances.

A wood floor refreshes your home and imparts a new life to the house. It not only looks beautiful but adds a natural essence to your home.

Some Do’s for Hardwood Flooring

·         Select a hardwood material that can face the footfall you expect to have on your premises.

·         You can choose from engineered flooring like planks made of a thinner layer of hardwood and bonded to other layers, designed to protect the floor from shifting during expansion and contraction cycles.

·         Select the right type of finish: Oil or polyurethane

Oil is easily penetrated inside the wood and gives a great look and feel, a soft, natural colour, or a matte look. But it is not as receptive to abrasion, scratch, or dent resistance as compared to polyurethane.

Polyurethane is more elastic to wear and tear, and you can give a finishing to scratches           easily. If you are planning to use polyurethane, ensure that you replace a board that is damaged and recoat the complete section of the floor.

·         Before choosing the hardwood variant, do not forget to read the terms and conditions, including warranty and maintenance contract.

·         Choose a professional installer if you have no or little experience in installing floors.

·         Have a moisture barrier to rest between the subfloor and your hardwood flooring to add another level of protection.

·         Find and choose from different color variations.

·          Clean the floor with dry mops and vacuums. Do not use water. If accidentally you spill water, or spill any other liquid, deal with it instantly or it can damage the floor.

Don’ts while Installing hardwood flooring or Wood flooring

·         Do not install hardwood flooring or any hardwood refinishing in any area where there is a chance of excessive moisture. It means, avoid installing the floor in “below grade” areas like the basement or in bathrooms.

·         Avoid installing floor in an area that is not regularly maintained or environmentally controlled, like in a cottage or summer home, which you rarely visit.

·         The process of installation should be on radiant heat. It is better to consider engineered hardwood flooring options that allow different variations in temperatures that could result from radiant heat.

·         Once installed, do not leave damp rugs over the surface of hardwood flooring for a prolonged period.

·         Do not choose a vague installation method; choose the one that best fits your needs. Ensure that the professional uses different variations and types of installation methods according to the physical features like its thickness, width, and hardwood product. Do not allow the flooring expert to nail or staple the hardwood flooring to a wood subfloor. It is easy to have engineered hardwood fastened, or glued, depending on the product you select.

·         Choose a high-quality solid hardwood.

Perfect floor installation increases the beauty and imparts strength, so choose the floor wisely and ensure proper care.
